The Indian cricket team are scheduled to tour South Africa from 5 December to 30 January 2013, playing 3 One Day Internationals and 2 Tests against the South African cricket team. Click here for and Time Table. Senior pacer Zaheer Khan was recalled to India’s Test team for next month’s tour of South Africa while the selectors chose to ignore opener Gautam Gambhir. Zaheer’s exclusion from the BCCI Annual Contracts may have been an indicator that selectors were looking beyond the 34-year-old left-arm seamer. However, his inclusion in the side means that his fate does not hang in balance.

On the other hand, it was sad news for Gambhir, who led from the front in Delhi’s win with a knock of 153, and has so far scored 372 runs in six innings in Ranji Trophy this season at a healthy average of 74 plus. He also has a couple of half-centuries in the match against Mumbai. Ambati Rayudu was also included into India’s Test team as a reserve batsman.

India are scheduled to play three ODIs in Johannesburg, Durban and Centurion on December 5, 8, 11 respectively.

This will be followed by a two-day practice match against South African Invitational XI at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni. The first Test match starts on December 18 at the New Wanderers while the ‘Boxing Day’ Test from December 26 will be played at the Kingsmead in Durban.
